KS1: Badgers
Snow day - Tuesday 7th January 2025
Wow it is cold and icy out there! I hope you have a fantastic energetic day of sledding and snowman building, why not write about it on the attached sheet and share it with us when we are back at school?
If you want to get your brain activated here are a few more activities to keep you busy while your fingers and toes are warming up.
If you want to share any work completed you can email it to me or bring back into school, I look forward to seeing what you have been up to!

English - Expanded noun phrases
Can you create expanded noun phrases about the snowy day? I have attached some word mats to help you. Remember what we have been learning about, an expanded noun phrase has an adjective to expand a noun, for example: The white, cold snowman had a red, stripy scarf. Use commas to separate your adjectives. As a challenge could you add some adverbs to your sentences?
'Happily the child ran around in the soft, cold, fluffy snow'
If you are feeling extra creative you could write a story using these skills all about a magical snowy day.
Winter Art
Can you create a piece of Art depicting a snowy scene? You can paint, draw or collage, or even create something 3D. I have attached a few pictures for inspiration but be as creative as you wish!

Badgers Autumn Term Learning (1)
DT and Art
This term we have been learning all about the 3 R's - Reducing, Recycling and Re-using. We decided to make our own reusable tote bags and we designed them in the style of Yayoi Kusama. The children have been so creative using her style of polka dot art in so many unique ways! I certainly hope they enjoy doing their bit to save the planet and reuse these bags again and again!
Trip to Weston Park Museum
What a fabulous day we had at Weston Park Museum. The children found lots of information out about Sheffield during different decades, they were able to find artefacts that we had discussed in this terms history topic. As well as lots of other fantastic learning about different aspects of history!
World Book Day 2023
We had a fabulous World Book Day this year, the children came in some amazing costumes, well done! We completed a lot of lovely reading activities and read a lot of stories together.
In English this term we are learning the story of 'The Papaya that spoke'
The children have enjoyed learning the story and creating actions to help them perform it!
The Papaya that spoke - performing with actions
We tasted a papaya to find out what it was like. The children tasted, smelt and touched the papaya in order to create adjectives to describe the fruit. They then used these words in their writing.
Tasting a papaya
The children decided they wanted to find out more about the papaya - they added water to the seeds to find out what would happen (they thought they might swell up like orr beads) and then carried out an experiment to see if the skin would float as it 'looked like a canoe' to their delight it did!
Will the papaya float?
Our artwork inspired by Henri Matisse
We plan out topics so that there are four long blocks of time to immerse ourselves in a topic and allow plenty of time to follow the children's ideas. In between the blocks we also have theme weeks which is how we teach our RE curriculum. In these weeks we concentrate totally on the RE theme for the week and approach it in a very cross curricular manner, so the children do English, Art, Maths, Geography activities to name but a few, that are all linked to the learning intentions for the RE work.
Reading Adventure Day - October 2022
October 6th 2022 was Reading Adventure day. We had so much fun reading 'How to catch a star' by Oliver Jeffers and doing lots of creative activities linked to the story!
We made our own rockets to fly to space, we 'caught' our own stars and created a class star mobile. We made rockets out of shapes and we wrote ten things we wanted to take with us on our rockets. The children were very imaginative and had a great day!
