Early Years Foundation Stage Provision

Curriculum Intent

At Castleton C of E Primary School our provision in nursery and reception is defined by the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS). This sets out the seven areas of learning the expectations for what children should be able to do by the end of the reception year, clarifying the progress with assessment against the Early Learning Goals (ELGs).

Our EYFS curriculum is designed to encourage independent, inquisitive and happy learners within the family ethos of our school. We take children’s prior learning as a starting point, and make sure that our provision is matched to the children’s personal skills and interests. Our small cohorts enable the staff to become very familiar with each individual child and ensure that the unique needs of each pupil are taken into account. Our ultimate aim being, to build strong foundations for their future.

Our EYFS curriculum is inclusive, with strengths in nurture, children with additional needs and well being. We promote the celebration of difference in our broad curriculum and always strive to promote a love for learning right from the very early days in our setting.
